Frankfort (KT) — The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is now accepting applications for game warden positions across a dozen counties in the state.
Applications will remain open through May 7, 2026. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license. Interested applicants must complete the online application through the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet Careers webpage.
Those who pass the initial screening will move through a rigorous selection process that includes a physical fitness test, swimming test, oral interview, psychological evaluation, drug screening, polygraph, background check, and medical exam.
Applicants are encouraged to monitor their email closely after the posting closes, as important updates and deadlines will be communicated electronically, including scheduling details for fitness and swim tests.
Selected candidates who are not already Peace Officer Professional Standards (POPS) certified will complete 20 weeks of basic training at the Department of Criminal Justice Training. This is followed by 14 weeks at the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Academy and an additional 12 weeks of field training.
Game wardens in Kentucky are sworn law enforcement officers with statewide jurisdiction. Their primary role is to enforce hunting, fishing, and boating laws, helping conserve wildlife resources while ensuring public safety across the state’s waterways.
Newly hired wardens are expected to be assigned to counties including Allen, Barren, Bourbon, Breckinridge, Carter, Greenup, Henderson, Jefferson, Logan, Meade, Monroe, and Morgan after completing training.
