A man has been taken into custody in connection with a fatal mass shooting in the Midlands. Azavius Jones, 24, was arrested in Marlboro County on Monday, according to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott. He was wanted for murder, multiple counts of attempted murder, and a firearms violation after the shooting.
The charges came after a gunshot on June 14th at the Jerkhut Bar and Grill in Columbia. The shooting killed an Irmo man and injured others.
Jones has a criminal record. According to Lott, Jones was previously wanted on Department of Corrections warrants and failed to appear in court on firearms charges last year. The club where the shooting occurred has subsequently been closed down.
