Louisville may see some snow starting the night of Dec. 1, though forecasters tracking a winter system remain unsure how much will fall.

Wintry precipitation could form from a low-pressure system expected to develop Dec. 1 in the Deep South, according to a Nov. 30 forecast update from the National Weather Service in Louisville. The storm’s path will determine whether the city gets mostly snow, mostly rain or a mix of both.

NWS officials said the northernmost of three possible tracks would bring more rain and above-freezing temperatures to Kentucky. A more southern track would result in colder air and more snow.

As of Nov. 30, the forecast shows the storm trending farther south, officials said.

Forecasters expect temperatures to be near or slightly below freezing from Monday night into Tuesday morning. The latest NWS outlook suggests Louisville could see anywhere from a trace to 2 inches of snow.

Impacts from the system should be minor, officials said, causing only a few daily inconveniences.

Frigid temperatures will continue in Kentucky and southern Indiana through the week, according to the NWS. Highs in Louisville may stay below 39 degrees from Dec. 1-5, and wind chills could dip to between 15 and 25 degrees during that stretch.
