The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for at least six states this Thursday.
Parts of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia are on high alert for a thunderstorm with scattered hail and wind gusts of up to 70 mph. Tornado warnings were issued for these states until 10 p.m. ET.
Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to form and intensify this afternoon. The strongest thunderstorms are likely to form line segments and a few supercells. Scattered destructive gusts will be the main threat, although a tornado or two are conceivable. The National Weather Service predicts further expansion into one or more line segments by the evening as this activity proceeds eastward toward the shore.
“The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 90 statute miles east and west of a line from 20 miles north northwest of Trenton NJ to 15 miles southeast of Roanoke Rapids NC.”
