LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Newly released body camera footage shows what happened before a fatal police shooting last week in Louisville’s Newburg neighborhood.

The shooting occurred early last Monday as Louisville Metro Police officers responded to another deadly incident nearby.

According to Deputy Chief Emily McKinley, officers were dispatched around 2 a.m. on Oct. 27 to Ridgecrest Road near Rosette Boulevard after reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found 45-year-old Tiffany Reiner lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds.

Before officers could assist Reiner, 20-year-old Frank Mejia Aguilar, armed with a gun, approached them in the street. McKinley said the officers ordered him to stop, but he continued advancing and pointed the weapon at them.

At that point, one officer, identified as Hunter Weaver, fired at Aguilar as he moved closer.

Hey, show me your hands … show me your hands right now …” one officer is heard shouting in the footage, followed by several gunshots and commands to “drop the gun.

For about a minute afterward, officers can be heard continuing to command Aguilar to show his hands and lie on his stomach before placing him in handcuffs.

Both Aguilar and Reiner were taken to UofL Health Hospital, where they later died. Police said the incident occurred during a birthday party for one of Reiner’s adult children.

Officer Hunter Weaver has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation, as required by department policy.

While LMPD typically holds a press briefing following the release of body camera footage, officials canceled Thursday’s scheduled conference due to the deadly UPS plane crash. The department said it will address questions about the shooting at its bi-weekly news conference next week.
