LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A crash involving a Kentucky State Police vehicle shut down part of Dixie Highway Wednesday afternoon.
MetroSafe said the crash occurred around 3:50 p.m. near Depot Lane. Authorities closed the northbound lanes. Three vehicles were involved, and one driver left the scene.
KSP said a driver traveling south on Dixie Highway collided with a pickup truck heading in the same direction. The impact caused the truck to spin into the northbound lanes, where a KSP cruiser struck it.
WLKY NewsChopper captured aerial footage of the scene, showing the black pickup truck and the KSP cruiser with heavy damage.
KSP said the trooper and the pickup truck driver were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to KSP, officers later located the third driver in Vine Grove. They arrested and identified him as 33-year-old David Huggins.
Huggins faces charges of two counts of assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and DUI first offense under aggravated circumstances.
Authorities closed that section of Dixie Highway for several hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
