The crash near Louisville left a KSP trooper and another driver injured, according to police.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky State Police trooper and another person were injured in a crash on Dixie Highway.
KSP Post 4 spokesperson Bryan Washer said the crash occurred just before 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 15000 block of Dixie Highway near Kosmosdale.
Washer said three vehicles were involved. Video from the scene showed a KSP cruiser and a black truck with heavy damage.
Preliminary investigations found that a Mitsubishi Mirage driven by 33-year-old David Huggins of Louisville was traveling southbound on Dixie Highway when it collided with a Ford Ranger driven by 69-year-old Michael Nugent of Shepherdsville.
Trooper Lukas Jones was traveling northbound when his cruiser struck the side of Nugent’s truck.
Huggins fled the scene and drove toward Radcliff. Troopers later located him in Vine Grove and took him into custody.
According to Washer, Trooper Jones suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby Louisville hospital for treatment. Nugent was transported to UofL Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Huggins is currently being held at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. He faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident, second-degree assault, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, April 30, at 9:00 a.m.
