Busy southern Indiana road reopens after railroad repair work

The project had raised concerns about traffic delays for drivers heading to Caesars Southern Indiana during Derby week.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A busy stretch of road in southern Indiana reopened Wednesday after crews completed railroad repairs.

State Road 111 in New Albany, a key route to Caesars Southern Indiana, had been closed between Corydon Pike and Scott Street last week while crews replaced railroad tracks along the corridor.

The Indiana Department of Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railroad coordinated the project, which sparked concerns about potential traffic delays during Kentucky Derby week, especially for those traveling to the casino.

The roadway has now reopened, but nearby construction may still slow traffic. A bridge over Middle Creek, just before Budd Road along State Road 111, remains under construction, causing some congestion for drivers heading to the casino.

The $1.3 million bridge reconstruction project has reduced traffic to a single lane, with temporary traffic signals directing vehicles through the area. Officials expect the project to be completed by late July.
