Police said a three-vehicle crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the 15000 block of Dixie Highway near Kosmosdale.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Kentucky State Police trooper was injured Wednesday in a crash on Dixie Highway near West Point.
Trooper Bryan Washer said the crash happened just before 4 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the 15000 block of Dixie Highway near Kosmosdale, just north of West Point.
In a news release late Wednesday night, KSP said David Huggins, 33, was driving a Mitsubishi Mirage southbound on Dixie Highway when he collided with a Ford Ranger pickup truck that was also traveling southbound. The impact caused the truck to spin into the northbound lanes, where it struck a cruiser driven by Trooper Lukas Jones.
KSP said Huggins fled the scene, heading south toward Radcliff. Authorities later located him in Vine Grove and arrested him. KSP said he faces the following charges:
Two counts of second-degree assault,
Leaving the scene of an accident-failure to render aid or assistance
DUI first offense aggravated circumstances
KSP said Jones was taken to Jewish Hospital, where he received treatment for minor injuries and was released. EMS transported the pickup truck driver to UofL Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police closed the northbound lanes of Dixie Highway in that area for several hours Wednesday while they investigated the crash.
