PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WOWK) — Drivers in Putnam County can expect to see more deputies on the roads as law enforcement ramps up patrols to crack down on speeding and reckless driving.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office announced plans to increase patrols in residential areas, including Mount Vernon Road and Hodges Road, following numerous public complaints about dangerous driving.

“It’s our responsibility to go out there and make the public safe. Without enforcement, you have no compliance,” said Sheriff Bobby Eggleton. “We have to remind people that speed limits are set for safety, not control. These roads have been analyzed for the right speeds, and we want drivers to respect that.”

Eggleton emphasized that deputies will be actively monitoring these areas, and anyone caught speeding, running stop signs, or driving recklessly will receive a citation.

The increased patrols aim to improve roadway safety and remind drivers to follow traffic laws for their safety and the safety of others.
