Columbia teen sentenced to 4 years in prison for firing shots into the home of his ex’s new boyfriend

A Columbia teen has been sentenced to prison for firing rounds into the home of his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.

The shooting occurred in March 2025 on the 4700 block of Silver Salmon Way. When authorities arrived, the ex-girlfriend informed them that her ex, Elijah Butler, 19, had sent her many text messages threatening to shoot up her apartment and her new boyfriend’s home.

Butler rang the man’s doorbell, and when no one answered, he strolled away before pulling out a revolver and firing six rounds into the house. Although no injuries were reported, the home sustained $1,000 in damage.

Officers discovered 6.8 grams of cocaine while searching Butler’s residence later.

Butler pled guilty on Tuesday to first-degree stalking, unauthorized use of a firearm, first-degree property damage, and possession of a controlled substance.

He was sentenced to four years in jail for each crime, but will be able to serve them concurrently for a total of four years.
