Crash shuts down part of I-75 in Kentucky, causes major traffic disruption; highway now reopened

A crash early Tuesday forced officials to shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Grant County, leading to significant traffic disruptions.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the incident occurred near the 162-mile marker, roughly four miles north of the Dry Ridge exit.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and planned to deploy salt trucks to assist in clearing the roadway. Officials warned that the interstate could remain closed for several hours.

Drivers are being redirected to U.S. Route 25 (Dixie Highway), though authorities expect delays along the detour.

Officials have not yet released information about the cause of the crash, how many vehicles were involved, or whether anyone was injured.

UPDATE:

Highway reopens

Interstate-471 remained closed throughout much of Saturday as crews worked to clean up the area.

Going northbound, I-471 is closed between Alexandra Pike/US-27 through Memorial Parkway. Going southbound it’s closed between Exit 5 (Newport Bellevue) through Grand Avenue.

In an update posted on Saturday afternoon, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said that it had already begun efforts to repave the highway and that crews hoped to reopen I-471 to traffic by the end of the day on Saturday.
