LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A new police report supports witness statements in the investigation into the death of Tyrah Adams, who was fatally injured by a metro garbage truck on Feb. 12.

Detectives with the Louisville Metro Police Department Public Integrity Unit reviewed surveillance footage from three cameras that captured parts of the incident.

What the video shows

According to the report, the grappler truck began collecting a large pile of trash. The footage shows the truck’s arm and claw lifting the pile before placing it back down. The operator then exited the crane, examined the pile, returned to the driver’s seat, and moved the truck forward.

Shortly afterward, Adams was seen getting up from the alley, walking to a nearby store, and collapsing in the doorway.

911 calls and worker response

The police report states that only two 911 calls were made — one by a store clerk and another by a customer. Neither of the two metro garbage workers involved called 911.

The city redacted the workers’ names in the report, citing the ongoing criminal investigation. A spokesperson for public works said the two workers have been placed on leave but did not provide additional details.

According to the report, the workers remained at the scene until EMS crews left.

Police also impounded the garbage truck as part of the continuing investigation.
