Kentucky weather is shaping up to be a bit unusual for January, with above-average temperatures, breezy conditions, and several chances for rain — and possibly even a rumble of thunder.
A cold front will move through the region on Tuesday, bringing increased cloud cover, spotty showers, and gusty winds. Wind gusts could top 30 mph at times, though temperatures will still reach the low to mid-50s.
Once the front passes, temperatures won’t change much. Winds will ease on Wednesday, sunshine will return, and highs will remain in the 50s.
Warmer air builds in for the second half of the week, pushing temperatures into the 60s. Gusty winds will continue, along with another opportunity for rain, especially on Friday. A stronger system is expected to arrive over the weekend, bringing additional rain and the chance for storms on Saturday.
Behind that system, temperatures will take a sharp turn colder. Highs in the 60s on Friday are expected to fall into the 30s by Sunday. Overnight lows could drop into the 20s by Monday morning, with a few snow showers possible as the system exits the region.
