Augusta man accused of hitting and kneeling on child with autism

A 53-year-old man has been arrested and charged with first-degree cruelty to children for allegedly assaulting a child with autism, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

Deputies arrived at a home in the 2000 block of Fernwood Circle about 7:51 a.m. on August 13 to conduct a welfare check.

According to the complaint, the 911 caller gave deputies camera footage of Tyrone Miller reportedly striking a child who was resting on a bed. According to the footage, Miller kneed the child in the side and back before beating him with what seemed to be a broom handle.

The child, who has severe autism, was sent to Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center for treatment, according to investigators.

Miller was charged with first-degree cruelty to children.
