Three people were taken into custody on Tuesday when Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office detectives stopped a vehicle shortly after it left Miami Central High School and discovered two loaded guns inside.
The suspects were identified as Garlens Junior Jean-Philippe, 21, Garvens Jean-Philippe, 18, both from North Miami, and Kanarious Jerome Harris, 17.
Deputies stated their arrests were the result of a traffic stop immediately after the car exited the school grounds.
According to the report, an MDSO investigator was conducting surveillance in northern Miami-Dade County approximately 2:12 p.m. on Tuesday when he noticed a black 2025 Mercedes-Benz C300 near Northwest 96th Street and Seventh Avenue.
Deputies stated that the suspected vehicle was known to law enforcement because its driver had previously fled the scene in an unrelated instance. Detectives also discovered that the vehicle’s front windshield was tinted beyond the legal limit, and the front windows had a measured opacity of 5%.
According to the complaint, detectives conducted covert surveillance and tracked the Mercedes down to Miami Central High School, situated at 1781 NW 95th Street.
According to the investigation, Garlens Jean-Philippe was driving, Garvens Jean-Philippe was in the front passenger seat, and Harris was in the back passenger seat when the event occurred.
Detectives said they watched as the car entered the school’s parking area and stayed for around 10 minutes. They said that no one was seen entering or exiting the vehicle during that period. According to the report, the Mercedes then departed the school grounds, and detectives continued to follow it.
According to the report, deputies performed a traffic check near Northwest 13th Avenue and 123rd Street.
After the three occupants were ordered out of the vehicle, an MDSO detective observed a loaded Glock.A 40-caliber handgun is located on the front passenger side floorboard. According to the study, Garvens Jean-Philippe had easy access to the gun.
According to the complaint, detectives also discovered a loaded Milsport.300 BLK-caliber AR-style weapon on the back bench seat, adjacent to and within reach of Harris.
“Both firearms were not securely incased and were readily accessible for immediate use,” a deputy stated in the report.
The report also states that although classes were not in session at the time, the institution was “active and open to teachers and administrators.”
According to the investigation, Garlens Jean-Philippe claimed custody of the firearms and gave “spontaneous statements” to detectives, admitting that the AR-style pistol had been left within Harris’ reach. According to the investigation, he also claimed to be uninformed that the law forbade such conduct.
According to jail records, Garlens and Garvens Jean-Philippe were later transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, while Harris was moved to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
According to records, Garlens Jean-Philippe is charged with one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm on school premises and one count of contributing to a child’s delinquency or dependency. Gavens Jean-Philippe is charged with one count each of illegal possession of a firearm on school grounds and illegal possession of a firearm by a child.
As of Wednesday, both men remained in TGK, with their bonds marked as “to be set.”
Authorities have not published a mugshot or specifics about Harris’ accusations.
