A woman is facing charges in Richmond County after deputies allegedly discovered unfit living conditions for a child with special needs.
Stephanie Miller was arrested on a second-degree cruelty to children charge after a search of her home on July 31.
According to police, DFACS was summoned to the property in the 2000 block of Fernwood Circle and determined that the home was inadequate for a children with special needs.
Officials also stated that during a walkthrough with DFACS, they discovered the family sleeping in the living room on a soiled mattress infested with bed bugs.
Along with the sleeping arrangements, investigators report finding rotten, expired, or freezer-burned food in the kitchen.
After questioning Miller, investigators discovered that the child has not attended school in over three years and receives little to no medical treatment.
