FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — As the year comes to an end, Gov. Andy Beshear said Thursday that ongoing efforts to improve roadway safety in Kentucky are showing results.
During a Team Kentucky update on Dec. 18, Beshear shared preliminary data on fatal crashes across Kentucky highways in 2025.
So far this year, 636 people have died in traffic fatalities. Beshear said that figure reflects a 7% decrease compared to 2024 and an 18% drop from 2023.
Serious injury crashes also declined, falling 2% from 2,713 to 2,647, according to the governor.
“It’s important to acknowledge the positive trend we’re seeing. We’ve been focused on making Kentuckians’ commutes safer with new pavement and updated intersections, new designs and more. These efforts are making a difference. But the real drivers of this success are you: Kentuckians,” Beshear said.
“We still need to build on the progress, and we need to make sure that next year we have even fewer accidents than we had this year,” he added.
Beshear urged drivers to follow speed limits, avoid using phones while driving, and always wear seatbelts.
“We always encourage people to make safe choices and to watch out for each other, especially when driving,” Beshear said. “Today, I want to take a minute to say to all Kentuckians, good work and keep it up.”
