Chilly Thanksgiving With Sunshine and Gusty Winds
Thanksgiving Day brought bright sunshine across Central and Eastern Kentucky, but temperatures stayed well below comfortable. Afternoon highs reached only the upper 30s, and northwest winds gusting near 20 mph kept wind chills in the 20s for much of the day.
Clouds that formed early across northern Kentucky gradually moved east, allowing sunshine to dominate the afternoon. By sunset, winds began to ease, setting up another very cold night.
Another Frigid Night Ahead for Black Friday Shoppers
Shoppers heading out early for Black Friday deals should bundle up. Overnight lows will dip into the low 20s, with some areas reaching the upper teens. Even with lighter winds, wind chills will remain in the mid-to-upper teens Friday morning.
Friday itself will be mostly sunny and quiet, but temperatures will stay below normal. Highs are expected in the upper 30s to low 40s—still chilly, but with lighter winds than on Thanksgiving.
Dry Weather Holds Through Friday Before Changes Arrive
High pressure moving east Friday night will keep skies mostly clear, but allow another cold night. Most areas will fall back into the low 20s. Clouds will start increasing from the west late Friday night as the next weather system approaches.
Weekend System Brings Rain, Snow, or a Mix
A more active weather pattern is expected Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. As moisture moves in from the west Saturday, temperatures in the Bluegrass region will be marginal, so most areas will likely see mainly rain. A few wet snowflakes or a brief rain-snow mix are possible, especially at the onset of precipitation Saturday afternoon or evening.
Warmer air Saturday night will keep most precipitation as rain, continuing into early Sunday morning before tapering off as colder air returns. Impacts should be minimal due to borderline temperatures and warm ground surfaces.
Colder Air Returns Early Next Week
After Sunday’s system, temperatures will drop back into the low to mid-20s by Monday morning. Monday will remain dry but cold before another potential wintry system arrives Monday night into Tuesday. Early indications suggest Kentucky could see accumulating snow with this system, though confidence remains low at this distance.
Forecasters will continue monitoring the setup over the next several days.
