LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Thanksgiving Week is underway, and the weather pattern is turning very active.
Today starts off super foggy, with clouds thickening as the day goes on. Highs reach the mid to upper 50s in the north and the low 60s across southern Kentucky.
Showers and some thunder move into western Kentucky this afternoon, spreading across the state tonight and Tuesday. Winds will ramp up during this period, and some areas may pick up another inch or two of rain. A strong cold front sweeps in early Wednesday, bringing gusty showers ahead of it and a chance for a few flakes Wednesday night into Thanksgiving morning.
The cold behind this front is significant. Temperatures start in the 50s early Wednesday, but they fall quickly through the 40s and into the 30s by late afternoon and early evening. Gusty winds will make it feel much colder on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
Thanksgiving Day is shaping up to be a cold turkey kind of day, with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s and winds making it feel frigid. Wind chills start in the upper teens and drop even lower by Thursday night and Black Friday morning.
Another storm system moves in this weekend, bringing the chance for rain and possibly snow from late Saturday into Sunday.
