A home in Oldham County near Louisville caught fire Monday night after being struck by lightning during severe storms.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — According to North Oldham Fire Chief Jim Sohan, crews received a call around 7 p.m. reporting a house fire on Harbor View Court in Prospect. Firefighters arrived about 15 minutes later to find flames already burning through the roof from one side of the home to the other.
“When we first arrived, the homeowner said his house was struck by lightning and he called 911,” Sohan said. “Upon arrival, the fire was already burned through the roof from one side of the house to the other.”
The intense fire caused the roof to collapse onto the second floor, which then gave way onto the first floor.
A total of 46 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, and crews remained at the scene overnight to monitor for potential flare-ups.
All occupants were able to escape safely, and no injuries were reported.
The fire came as a strong line of severe storms moved through the region between 7 and 9 p.m., causing widespread damage. Reports included downed trees and thousands of homes losing power.
In Jefferson County, part of Interstate 264 was temporarily shut down around 10 p.m. after a vehicle stalled in standing water.
