KENTUCKY — The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for much of Kentucky on Saturday as a snow-producing system moves across the state, bringing several inches of snow and hazardous travel conditions.

Snow is expected to begin in western Kentucky early Saturday morning and spread eastward through the day, continuing into Saturday night before tapering off late in the evening.

Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are possible in many communities under advisory, with locally higher amounts in parts of central and northern Kentucky. In the Louisville metro area and surrounding counties, 2 to 4 inches are expected, while areas farther north, near the Ohio River, could see 3 to 5 inches, with higher totals where snow bands persist. In central Kentucky, including Lexington, totals of 2 to 4 inches are forecast, with slightly lower amounts farther south.

The timing of the snow, especially during afternoon and evening travel, may lead to rapidly deteriorating road conditions. Slick roads and reduced visibility are likely, particularly on untreated surfaces. Motorists are urged to plan for slower travel, allow extra time for trips, and exercise caution.

Very cold air is expected to follow the storm Saturday night into Sunday, with temperatures dropping well below normal. The combination of cold temperatures and snow-covered roads may prolong slick conditions into Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service continues to monitor the storm and may update advisories or issue new warnings as needed. Residents are encouraged to check local forecasts and travel alerts throughout the weekend.
