HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – With more snowfall possible later this week, Kentucky State Police are sharing winter driving tips.
KSP says nearly one in four weather-related crashes happen on snow, slush, or ice.
Officials note that most wrecks occur during severe weather when vehicles slide into ditches, and they stress the importance of understanding the type of road you’re driving on—whether it’s a bridge or a backroad.
“When you hit a bridge or overpasses because they’re not protected underneath, they tend to freeze first, and so you can run into slick spots on those situations,” said Meteorologist Brian Neudorff.
“Farming communities and rural areas, a lot of times they’re in between hills, so it’s probably going to be colder there than it is out here in the city,” added KSP Trooper Zach Haney.
Officials continue to urge drivers to slow down and take their time as conditions change.
