A New Orleans woman was taken into custody after being charged with tax fraud.
According to the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR), Jasmine Iriel Dumas, 32, is suspected of filing state income tax returns with incorrect tax information to enhance refunds owing to her clients.
Investigators identified a suspicious return that included a W-2 form for 2022, a year in which the client was not employed. The customer informed investigators that he had never worked for the company in question and had not provided Dumas with the purported information.
The bogus return resulted in the state giving an unlawful reimbursement of $6,569.
The LDR probe prevented the disbursement of $59,909 in illicit monies, according to a release.
Dumas was arrested and lodged at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on accusations of filing or maintaining false public records, theft, and attempted theft.
