Parts of Central and Eastern Kentucky could see just over an inch of snow Monday before a cold front pushes temperatures well below freezing later this week.
The National Weather Service expects snow to taper off by early afternoon in Central Kentucky on Monday and around 7 p.m. in the farthest eastern counties. Snow totals should range from a light dusting to about an inch.
In Eastern Kentucky, the Big Sandy region and areas north of the Mountain Parkway corridor have the best chances for higher snow totals. Lighter amounts are likely farther south and west, from Somerset to London to Middlesboro, according to the NWS.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect for areas in the storm’s path until at least 1 p.m. Monday. Roads may be slick.
District 7 of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, which includes Fayette County, said crews worked overnight and continue treating roads Monday. Gov. Andy Beshear warned drivers that the roads are slicker than they look.
“Everybody needs to be really careful today,” Beshear said on X. “Remember, those are Kentuckians out on the road. We want to protect you, we want to protect them, so everybody take a little extra time to get where you’re going today.”
Temperatures will hold in the 30s throughout Monday before dropping into the upper teens to mid- to upper 20s overnight.
