Louisville, KY – The National Weather Service has issued several winter weather alerts for southern and southeastern Kentucky from Thursday night into Friday morning, warning that accumulating snow could make roads slick by daybreak.

Forecasters with the NWS Louisville office expect up to an inch of snow across the Lake Cumberland region, with lighter amounts farther north toward the Western and Bluegrass Parkways. Snow is expected to begin late Thursday and continue overnight, creating the potential for hazardous travel early Friday.

The NWS office in Jackson has also issued a Winter Weather Advisory for southeastern Kentucky, where 1 to 3 inches of snow are possible through 10 a.m. Friday. The highest totals are expected in the elevated areas of Pike, Letcher, and Harlan counties.

Even light snowfall could create dangerous driving conditions, especially on shaded or higher-elevation roads. Drivers are urged to slow down and build in extra time for the Friday morning commute.

Snow is expected to ease by mid-morning Friday, but temperatures will stay cold enough for icy spots to linger through midday in some areas.

Residents should continue to follow updates from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and local officials for the latest information on road conditions and possible delays.
