Bowling Green Police responded around noon Saturday (11/29) to an apartment where a man reportedly pointed a gun at a woman. As officers headed to the residence in the 1500 block of East Clough Street, dispatch reported that the man had left in a Toyota Tundra and was driving toward East Wooster Street.

An officer stopped the truck in a parking lot on East Wooster and saw the driver, Jacob Sanford, 36, of Louisville, Kentucky, with an empty holster on his waistband. Sanford told police the gun was inside the truck.

Officers found the firearm under a pillowcase containing a snake on the front passenger floor. The Smith & Wesson handgun was loaded with one round chambered. A backpack that fell from the truck while turning onto East Wooster reportedly held boxes of ammunition.

Sanford told officers he traveled to Bowling Green to collect his belongings from the apartment. His wife, who was also in the truck, said he had previously had an affair with the woman living there.

Sanford’s wife and two other adults stayed in the truck while he and his 14-year-old daughter went inside to retrieve his possessions. When Sanford went upstairs, his daughter tried to follow, but the Bowling Green woman refused to let her go up.

Sanford eventually came back downstairs and said the woman had shoved his daughter. He reportedly pulled the gun from his waistband and held it to the woman’s head. A friend in the apartment said she saw his finger on the trigger.

After Sanford left, the women locked the door and called police.

When officers questioned the teenager, she said her father had pulled out a gun.

Sanford denied pointing the gun at the woman but claimed he needed to defend his daughter. However, a police report noted that while seated in the back of a cruiser with another person from the truck, he was recorded saying, “she’s lucky her head’s still on her f—— neck.”

He was arrested for felonious assault and taken to Wood County Jail.
