A Montgomery County judge sentenced Kalayan Stoev to 120 years in prison Monday for the shooting deaths of two people in January 2025.
The sentence was imposed on September 28 in Montgomery County Circuit Court by Judge John Maloney.
On April 23, a jury convicted Stoev guilty of two counts of using a handgun in the commission of a felony and two counts of having a firearm while prohibited.
The charges come from the shooting of Marcell Hebron, 26, and Leilani Marroquin, 27.
On January 17, 2025, around 3:15 a.m., a Montgomery County police officer discovered Hebron’s body behind the wheel of a disabled white BMW at Shady Grove Road and Research Boulevard in Rockville.
Around four hours later, at 7:40 a.m., Rockville City police officers responded to a report of a deceased person in the parking lot of a motel at 2 Research Court. Officers discovered Marroquin’s body at the scene.
According to the inquiry, Stoev used two loaded handguns to shoot Hebron both inside and outside the vehicle. Investigators say Hebron was shot 27 times.
Marroquin fled the vehicle, but Stoev allegedly shot her five times from the side and back. She collapsed to the ground and was subsequently discovered dead.
Stoev was found guilty by a jury of two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of using a firearm to commit a felony, and two counts of possessing a handgun while forbidden.
Assistant State’s Attorneys Ashley Inderfurth and Demort Garrett prosecuted the case.
