A body was found on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus Monday morning, authorities said.
Urbana public safety officials said the body was discovered around 6:42 a.m. near the Alma Mater statue at Green and Wright streets on the university campus.
Police said officers found the man sitting on a concrete bench. He was later identified as 29-year-old Alex C. Rodriguez, who was not affiliated with the University of Illinois.
Officers immediately requested emergency medical assistance, police said. The Champaign County Coroner’s Office responded and pronounced Rodriguez dead at the scene. Public safety officials said they found no evidence of foul play, and an autopsy has been scheduled.
Police said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the campus community and did not issue a campuswide alert.
The coroner’s office and UIPD are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and expect to provide additional updates.
