2nd woman dies after drunk driver crashes into TARC bus stop in Shively, police say

A second victim has died following a drunk driving crash into a TARC bus stop Monday evening in Shively, according to police.

The Shively Police Department reported that officers responded to an injury collision involving two vehicles at approximately 7:56 p.m. at the intersection of Rockford Lane and Dixie Highway.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman identified as 43-year-old Danielle Cordes dead at the scene. Two other women were transported to the hospital with critical and life-threatening injuries.

Shively Police Sgt. Jordan Brown confirmed Wednesday that the woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries had since died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Two additional people who were at or near the bus stop at the time of the crash sustained minor injuries, police said.

Authorities arrested Kevin D. Moore, 45, and charged him with DUI and murder in connection with the crash.

Two passengers in one of the vehicles involved told police Moore was behind the wheel at the time of the crash. Officers found Moore sitting on the curb, where he told them the accident “was not his fault even though he was drunk due to him consuming alcoholic beverages.”

Moore also told police he had been drinking tequila in the hour before the crash.

According to an arrest citation, Moore faces charges of murder, disregarding a traffic light, criminal mischief, two counts of assault, two counts of wanton endangerment, two counts of assault with minor injury, DUI, and reckless driving.

At his arraignment Wednesday morning, Moore pleaded not guilty. A judge set his bond at $1 million, with his next court appearance scheduled for June 4.

The investigation is ongoing.
