A Columbia man has been charged with abandoning a woman’s body in Perche Creek.
Prosecutors charged 53-year-old Andrew B. Acton with abandonment of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence in a felony case.
On Sunday, May 17, 2026, a boater discovered a City of Columbia trash bin floating in Perche Creek.
After noticing a strong smell of decomposition, the boater contacted police.
Deputies opened the trash bin and found a body inside.
Court documents say investigators recovered surveillance images showing a red Chevrolet S-10 truck traveling along Burr Oak Road near Star School Road on May 11, 2026.
The images showed a City of Columbia trash bin in the truck bed.
At about 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 18, law enforcement officers located the truck and took Acton into custody.
Authorities held Acton in the Boone County Jail without bond.
Boone County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Brian Leer confirmed the body belonged to a woman.
There was no word on the identity of the woman at this time.
