Man sentenced to prison after violent attack on Providence Park security guard

A Newberg man was recently sentenced after attacking a Providence Park security guard earlier this year.

Randy Allen Jasper, 42, altered his plea on September 16, admitting guilty to attempted assault, which was a reduction from his original assault charge. The second assault charge was dismissed.

Jasper was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

According to court documents, Jasper was initially booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center for second- and fourth-degree assault after attacking and breaking the arm of a security guard outside Providence Park on May 7.

Leading up to the attack, the guard stated that he observed Jasper lying on the ground outside the stadium and bent down to check on them.

Jasper stood up and began punching the guard in the head and chest, according to court filings. Jasper was also charged with lifting the guard into the air and throwing him on the pavement.

The security guard said that his arm was fractured in two places and his elbow was smashed as a result of being tossed.

Police later apprehended Jasper at the Fred Meyer at 100 NW 20th Place. Jasper said the police guard was “f-king” with him, so he stuck up for himself.

According to court records, security footage from Providence Park shows the guard bending down and attempting to speak with Jasper. Then Jasper is shown springing up and striking and kicking the guard, even though he is on the floor.

The clip then shows the officer standing up while Jasper wraps his arms around him from behind and throws his body to the ground.
