Pennsylvania liquor control authorities say they have halted an illegal gambling business in Washington County. Officials said it occurred at a social club where they seized tens of thousands of dollars in alleged unlawful betting income.
Authorities say they recovered more than $91,000 from the Independent Political Club in Washington, Pennsylvania, where people were playing Queen of Hearts.
According to officials, the club does not have a county-issued minor game of chance license. According to Officer Wayne Wright of the Pennsylvania State Liquor Control Enforcement, even if the club had a license, Queen’s Hearts is not on the state’s list of legal small games of chance. “The 52 cards are laid out on a table,” Wright explained. “You buy chances to receive the card. Obviously, having the queen of hearts means you win and receive the jackpot.
According to police enforcement, these games might go on for a long time. “They can last for a variety of times,” Wright explained. “This specific game went on for approximately 10 months.”
Officials said the inquiry is still ongoing and no criminal charges have been ruled out.
