A helicopter made a hard landing in a wooded area near Troy Air Park in Lincoln County, Missouri, on Wednesday, leaving the pilot with moderate injuries.
The pilot, who was the only person aboard the aircraft, was airlifted to a hospital in the St. Louis area for treatment. Authorities are now investigating what led to the incident.
Emergency dispatch reports indicate that first responders were called to a wooded area near Aero Drive after receiving reports of a helicopter down. The pilot remained conscious and alert following the hard landing. Officials also reported a fuel spill at the crash site, though no one was trapped inside the aircraft.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol told Fox 2 that the pilot was the sole occupant of the helicopter. Troopers said the pilot was conscious and alert after the landing, suffered moderate injuries, and was transported to a hospital for medical care.
Lincoln County Fire officials said civilians and an official helped the pilot out of the helicopter before first responders arrived on scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and will handle the investigation moving forward.
