6-Year-Old Missing From Maple Heights Recovered in Houston After Weekend Visit Becomes Multi-State Search, Authorities Say

A mother’s attempt to pick up her young son after a weekend with family spiraled into a terrifying search spanning from Ohio to Texas, federal authorities say.

Investigators recovered a 6-year-old boy from Maple Heights, Ohio, safely in Houston on the morning of June 18, 2026, after authorities say someone took him without permission and transported him to the Texas area. The U.S. Marshals Service announced the arrest of D’Juan Younger, 37, in connection with the case.

The child’s mother contacted the Maple Heights Police Department on June 15 after she arrived to pick up her son and found him missing, officials say. The boy had reportedly spent the weekend with family members, but authorities say the situation changed when Younger allegedly took the child from a family member’s residence without permission.

Younger then traveled to the Houston area with the boy, police said. What began as a local missing child report quickly escalated into a coordinated search involving Ohio police and federal investigators in Texas.

The Maple Heights Police Department’s Detective Bureau requested help from the U.S. Marshals Service SPEAR Unit on June 16. SPEAR — which stands for Specialized Personnel for Enforcement, Apprehension, and Recovery — assists in cases involving fugitives and recovery efforts.

The child’s mother and Maple Heights police pleaded with Younger to return the boy, but he refused, authorities said. Police later obtained a warrant accusing Younger of interference with custody.

After the Northern District of Ohio U.S. Marshals Service received information about where Younger and the boy might be, investigators passed it along to the Southern District of Texas. Texas marshals located both Younger and the missing child within a day of receiving the lead, officials said.

Authorities recovered the child safely and took Younger into custody without incident, according to the release. He is expected to remain in Houston custody until extradition to Cuyahoga County, Ohio, where he will face the charge.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott praised the Maple Heights Police Department for its investigative work, saying the department’s decision to seek federal assistance helped bring the child home safely and quickly.

Why It Matters

Few moments terrify a parent more than arriving to pick up a child and realizing something is wrong. This case started in a familiar setting — a child spending time with family — but authorities say it quickly became a serious custody-related matter that crossed state lines.

The case also illustrates how fast a local missing child report can expand when investigators believe someone has moved a child far from home. Maple Heights sits more than one thousand miles from Houston, making time, communication, and coordination critical once police believed the boy had left Ohio.

The safe recovery does not erase the fear the child’s family likely endured, but it does demonstrate why authorities treat missing child reports with urgency when a young child’s location is unknown. In this case, local police, federal marshals in Ohio, and investigators in Texas worked across jurisdictions to find the boy and take the suspect into custody.

Anyone with information about wanted fugitives or U.S. Marshals-supported missing child cases can contact the agency through its tip page, authorities said. The agency also reminds the public to call 911 for emergencies or immediate threats to life.

The case now moves into the legal process in Ohio. Younger has been arrested, but a court must still resolve the allegations against him. For the child’s family, however, the most important chapter has already closed: a 6-year-old who went missing from Maple Heights was found alive and safe in Houston.
