Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich sentenced a 63-year-old man from California to 11 to 16 1/2 years in prison for narcotics trafficking on Thursday.
Edward Hanserd received his sentence after being convicted of guilty of cocaine possession last month, earning him a major drug offender classification.
In February 2023, the Ohio State Highway Patrol captured Hanserd trailing a semi-truck while making no attempt to pass it.
Officers conducted a traffic stop and discovered that Hanserd was driving a vehicle with a Michigan license plate, although he possessed a California driver’s license.
Hanserd informed officers that he was visiting a buddy in Ohio but did not have any clothes or bags in the car.
Officers then conducted a canine search, which yielded 508 grams of cocaine and two pounds of marijuana, according to Kolkovich’s news release.
“I want to thank these observant Ohio State Highway Patrol Officers for noticing signs of drug trafficking in Hanserd’s suspicious behavior,” prosecutor Kolkovich stated. “With their diligence, they were able to get a trafficker of deadly drugs off our streets.”
