2 arrested, 3 cars seized in Louisville street racing crackdown

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Police Department said it is continuing efforts to curb reckless driving across the metro.

Over the weekend, officers seized three vehicles for violating the city’s street racing ordinance. Police also arrested two people and cited another after observing unsafe driving along the Bardstown Road corridor.

“What we’re going after is folks who have unsafe behaviors blocking the road, open carry on the sidewalks, just acting a fool in our neighborhood,” Metro Councilman Ben Reno-Weber said.

According to police, Wilson Aguilar was charged with reckless driving and is accused of doing burnouts near Grinstead and Bardstown. Thaddaeus Taylor faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, resisting arrest, wanton endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Court documents state Taylor was involved in a hit-and-run crash in a McDonald’s parking lot, where a victim said he attempted to strike her with his vehicle. Officers later reported seeing him speeding along Bardstown Road.

“This is a wonderful entertainment corridor. It is also one block off of where people live. Those two things can absolutely coexist. If the people who are in the neighborhood to have a good time are inside the establishments that are attended for that,” Reno-Weber said.

Neighbors say the issue has persisted for some time. In March, the mayor reported around 20 arrests and roughly 60 citations during one weekend near the Bardstown Road area.

Reno-Weber said police will continue increased patrols in the corridor.
