LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Louisville Metro Police Department is stepping up enforcement against street racing across the city.
Police said Wednesday that 5th Division patrol officers recently seized three vehicles involved in street racing along the Bardstown Road corridor.
Officers also arrested three drivers:
19-year-old Thaddaeus D. Taylor, charged with resisting arrest and failure to maintain required insurance
22-year-old Wilson Aguilar, charged with reckless driving and operating on a suspended or revoked license
A third, unnamed driver, cited for reckless driving and fleeing
Street racing on public roads is illegal statewide, but Louisville’s local ordinance imposes stricter penalties.
The ordinance allows for a $1,000 fine and vehicle impoundment for up to six months for a first offense. Repeat violations can lead to fines of up to $2,000 and longer impoundment periods.
House Bill 425, which aimed to expand policies similar to Louisville’s ordinance statewide, did not pass before the 2026 legislative session ended.
