An Indiana State Police K-9 has received potentially life-saving body armor thanks to a donation from a couple in New Haven.

Enzo was fitted with the protective gear provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a nonprofit organization that supplies bullet- and stab-resistant vests and other equipment to law enforcement and service dogs across the United States.

According to a news release from Indiana State Police, Kurt and Sherry Riecken sponsored Enzo’s vest, which features the embroidered phrase, “Born to Love – Trained to Serve – Loyal Always”.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible donations of any amount, while a contribution of $1,050 sponsors one vest. Each vest is valued at $1,800, weighs about 4–5 pounds, and includes a five-year warranty. Since its founding, the organization has supplied more than 6,397 vests worth $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states, made possible through private and corporate donations.
