Kentucky to roll out new driver licensing system and online portal in June

FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — Kentucky will introduce a new driver licensing system and online portal in June to improve efficiency and cut down wait times, Gov. Andy Beshear announced.

The system, called the Kentucky Information Network for Driver Licensing (KINDL), is set to launch on June 8 and will replace the state’s nearly 40-year-old platform.

Officials said the upgrade will let residents create accounts through a “myDrive” portal to access services such as pre-applying for licenses or IDs, requesting replacements, updating addresses and checking license status.

To prepare for the transition, all regional driver licensing offices will close on June 4 and 5. Offices will reopen June 8 with adjusted walk-in hours through June 18, and some online services will be temporarily unavailable during the transition.

State officials urged residents with June renewal dates to complete their transactions before the temporary closures.

The new system builds on recent improvements, including increased staffing and updated check-in systems that have already helped reduce wait times at licensing offices.
