‘Everyone else is playing detective’: Louisville families of homicide victims unite to demand justice

Several families in Louisville who have lost loved ones gathered downtown Monday night, seeking progress from detectives and hoping for real justice in their cases.

Among those present were the families of Tiara Manica, Carlos Wilson, and Aumani Martin. Each family said they are still left with many unanswered questions and feel they have had to piece together details on their own.

One of the victims, Carlos Wilson, Jr., was found severely beaten in a backyard in PRP in March and later died at the hospital.

“I just find it really hard to believe that the investigation is being so thorough that they can’t communicate something to the family other than there is an investigation,” said Carlos’ sister, Cheridan Logsdon.

Aumani Martin had been leaving a Halloween party with his cousin last fall when someone fired multiple shots into their car. A bullet struck Martin in the head, causing him to crash into a tree.

“By the grace of God, his cousin survived, but my son did not, and what hurts even more is the people responsible are still walking free,” said Ashley Reynolds, Aumani’s mother.

Tiara Manica, 17, was shot and killed last October alongside her friend, 18-year-old Navayah Dorsey.

Tiara’s mother, Meredith Manica, told WAVE she has not heard from a detective in months, prompting her to share her story on social media.

“I don’t want to tell my business on social media, but I have to, unless her case is going to be collecting dust,” Manica said.

Now, six months after her daughter’s death, Manica stands alongside other grieving families—something she never imagined having to do.

“I’m glad I met some of these mothers, but at the same time, I’m not, because we should not be here,” Manica said. “It’s not gonna stop until we get these people off the streets.”

In a statement to WAVE, LMPD said its homicide unit continues working to bring closure to the families in Tiara and Navayah’s case and emphasized that such crimes will not be tolerated.

In Carlos’ case, the commonwealth is still reviewing the evidence, and no charges have been filed.

WAVE also reached out to LMPD regarding Aumani’s case and is still awaiting a response.
