Louisville — A shooting in Oldham County led to a police pursuit that ended in west Louisville Saturday afternoon, leaving two people injured.
According to the LaGrange Police Department, Oldham County Central Dispatch received a report of shots fired around 4 p.m. in the 1600 block of Bentances Court. Officers responded and found a 16-year-old boy with gunshot wounds.
Police said three individuals were inside a black Chevy Malibu that fled the scene, heading south on I-71.
Just before 4:30 p.m., the Louisville Metro Police Department joined the pursuit to assist Oldham County authorities. The chase ended near the 4100 block of West Muhammad Ali Boulevard in the Shawnee neighborhood.
Officers located a man inside the vehicle who had also been shot. He was transported to UofL Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The 16-year-old was also taken to the hospital, though his condition has not been released.
Authorities believe the other two occupants of the vehicle fled either before or at the end of the pursuit.
Neighbors described the incident as frightening, especially in what is typically a quiet area.
“I guess the driver felt like he had to go pretty far to finally get stopped in Louisville, Kentucky and take a loss and go to jail, unfortunately for him. But that’s what happens when you drive at high rates of speed with kids and other people in the neighborhood that you could put at risk. So it’s best to drive safe and don’t do dumb stuff,” said neighbor Benji Adams.
Because the shooting occurred outside Jefferson County, the LaGrange Police Department and the Oldham County Police Department are leading the investigation.
