Louisville — Roads across Kentucky and southern Indiana could become slick overnight as light snow develops before transitioning to rain during the Wednesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, temperatures are expected to fall into the mid-20s overnight, allowing a brief period of light snow accumulation—generally under a half inch.
Areas including Elizabethtown and Bowling Green, along with southern Indiana communities like New Albany and Jeffersonville, could see snow begin after midnight. The precipitation is expected to change to rain between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday.
This timing creates a short but impactful window for hazardous travel, especially on bridges and overpasses along major highways such as Interstate 64, Interstate 65, and Interstate 71.
Untreated surfaces may become icy before temperatures rise into the upper 40s and mid-50s by midday, helping improve road conditions.
Drivers traveling early Wednesday are urged to allow extra time, slow down, and remain alert for icy patches. Light rain may continue into Thursday, particularly across southern Indiana and northern Kentucky.
While conditions are expected to improve later in the day, the early morning commute poses the greatest risk as snow quickly transitions to rain.
