LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A well-known plane displayed beside a Louisville concert venue was damaged Wednesday afternoon after a tree fell on it during heavy winds.

In a Facebook post, Headliners Music Hall on Lexington Road said the venue’s beloved plane was struck by a falling tree.

“Welp. It’s a dark day here at HDL HQ,” the post read.

In a Reddit post, an employee said they were at work when they heard a loud crash and realized a tree had fallen onto the plane.

“As many of you know, the plane has been our unofficial mascot and a Louisville landmark for about as long as Headliners has been around,” the post read. “While we are still in a bit of shock, we are grateful that no one was injured or property damage incurred.”

The venue said it plans to salvage as much of the plane as possible, though officials are still unsure what form the restoration may take.

“We know it means as much to y’all as it does to us,” the Facebook post concluded. “Stay tuned for updates on what will surely be a lengthy process.”

The plane originally served as a decorative feature from the former bar Cliffhangers. The owners purchased it from a southern Indiana scrap yard and used a crane to place it on a support beam, securing it with aircraft cables. Although the bar closed in the mid-1990s, the plane remained in place.
