Cincinnati, Ohio – A surge of colder Canadian air could bring brief periods of light snow to the Ohio–Indiana–Kentucky tri-state region just days before St. Patrick’s Day, potentially slowing early spring break travel across the Ohio River Valley.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, a cooler-than-normal weather pattern is expected to spread south across the Midwest and parts of the Mid-Atlantic from Friday, March 13 through Thursday, March 19. As colder air settles over the region, passing weather systems could allow precipitation to fall as light snow between Friday, March 13 and Sunday, March 15.

Cities throughout the tri-state area—including Cincinnati, northern Kentucky communities such as Covington and Florence, and southeastern Indiana locations like Lawrenceburg—could see occasional snow showers or a rain-snow mix if colder air overlaps with incoming moisture.

Drivers along major travel routes, including Interstate 71 and Interstate 75 through Cincinnati and Interstate 275 around the metro loop, may encounter brief visibility reductions or slick spots during overnight and early morning travel.

Although widespread accumulation is not expected, even light snowfall could create slushy conditions on bridges and elevated roadways during colder periods.

Air travel disruptions are expected to remain minimal, but brief snow showers could still slow departures at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport if precipitation develops during busy spring break travel periods.

The same weather pattern could bring more consistent snowfall farther north across Michigan, northern Ohio and parts of the Northeast, where colder air is expected to remain more firmly in place.

Travelers planning road trips should continue monitoring weather updates and allow extra time as conditions change heading into the mid-March travel weekend. Additional outlook updates are expected as the broader weather pattern develops across the Midwest and Ohio Valley.
