Louisville, KY – A messy wintry mix is set to move into Kentucky and southern Indiana overnight, potentially creating slick spots for the Monday morning commute, especially along and north of Interstate 64.

According to the US National Weather Service in Louisville, freezing rain, sleet and light snow are expected mainly north of the I-64 corridor early Monday, March 2, 2026, before gradually transitioning to rain later in the morning. While relatively warm ground temperatures should keep most primary roads wet, bridges and overpasses could turn slick for a short time.

Forecasters indicate there is a 40% chance of a light coating of slushy snow along and north of I-64. More notably, there is a 40% to 70% chance of light ice accumulation in the same areas, particularly across southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky, including parts of Jefferson County and the Louisville metro.

Farther south into central Kentucky, minor slushy snow accumulation is possible, though impacts there are expected to remain limited. Overall confidence is moderate, with the greatest uncertainty centered on precipitation type between I-64 and the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass parkways.

Drivers should plan for extra travel time early Monday and exercise caution on elevated surfaces. Conditions are expected to improve later in the morning as temperatures climb and precipitation changes over to rain.

How much extra time are you planning to allow for your commute Monday morning?
