Maysville, Kentucky – Drivers across northeast Kentucky should get ready for slick bridges and icy back roads by 3 a.m. Monday as snow and freezing precipitation arrive ahead of the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday for Lewis, Bracken, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Mason, Owen, Pendleton and Robertson counties. Forecasters predict up to 1 inch of snow, along with several hundredths of an inch of ice accumulation — enough to make travel hazardous, particularly on untreated roads.

Communities such as Maysville, Carrollton, Williamstown, Dry Ridge and Falmouth may wake up to snow-covered secondary roads. Bridges and overpasses along U.S. 68, U.S. 27 and KY 9 are especially prone to icing as temperatures fall below freezing. Rural routes in Owen and Robertson counties could stay slick through midmorning.

State transportation officials advise motorists to slow down and check conditions at goky.ky.gov before traveling. Drivers should allow extra stopping distance and use caution on stairs, sidewalks and driveways, where a light glaze of ice may raise the risk of falls.

Road conditions are expected to gradually improve after 11 a.m., though isolated slick spots could linger into midday.
