A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for far southeastern Kentucky through Monday evening. The forecast calls for 1 to 3 inches of snow in that area by Monday evening.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Winter weather is making a comeback in the Bluegrass State. While the Northeast prepares for a blizzard, parts of the Commonwealth will see light snow showers and occasional squalls developing this afternoon. The greatest chances will be in southeastern Kentucky, though Central Kentucky could also see brief squalls that leave a quick coating, especially after sunset. Most of the region will receive less than an inch of accumulation, but the mountains of southeastern Kentucky are expected to pick up 1 to 3 inches. Highs today will stay in the mid to upper 20s, with feels-like temperatures in the teens.
Snow will continue into Monday, and wind chills will turn brutal early in the day. Feels-like temperatures will drop into the single digits Monday morning, so bundle up before heading to work or school. Snow will linger in eastern areas on Monday, and a few flakes could still fall in the Bluegrass, though skies will be mostly cloudy overall.
Tuesday will bring another cool day, with highs only reaching the 40s under partly cloudy skies and overnight lows dipping into the 20s. Wednesday will stay mainly dry, but a few showers could move in late in the day. That system will pave the way for a soggy Thursday as a strong area of low pressure tracks across the Commonwealth. Highs will climb into the 50s on both Wednesday and Thursday.
Once that system exits, warmer weather is expected to move in as next weekend approaches.
