A blast of cold air will hold temperatures in the 30s through Sunday and Monday. Warmer weather and the next round of rain are on the horizon for the week ahead.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Much colder temperatures have settled in this morning, setting up a cold and windy Sunday. Snow showers could develop over the plateau and in the mountains today.
SUNDAY: A few breaks in the clouds will allow for some morning sunshine before clouds increase again by late morning and into the afternoon. Highs will struggle to reach the upper 30s, and a strong northwest wind will make it feel more like the 20s throughout the day.
Scattered snow showers will continue across southeast Kentucky, the Cumberland Plateau, and the Great Smoky Mountains through the rest of Sunday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of the Smokies and southeast Kentucky, where accumulating snowfall is expected, especially in higher elevations above 2,500 feet. A few stray snowflakes could also make their way into the Valley.
MONDAY: The cold will persist into Monday with a harsh start to the day. Morning wind chills will drop into the teens and even single digits before rising into the 20s by afternoon. Highs will reach the mid-30s, with northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph.
TUESDAY: A gradual warm-up begins as temperatures climb into the upper 40s under mostly sunny skies.
REST OF THE WEEK: Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 50s for the remainder of the week. Another round of rain is expected to move in late Wednesday through Thursday.
