Now is the time to get ready for the height of spring storm season.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Severe weather can strike during all 12 months of the year in Middle Tennessee and Kentucky, but it statistically peaks in the spring and again in the fall.
Severe Weather Awareness Week begins in Tennessee on Sunday, Feb. 15, and runs through Saturday, Feb. 21. In Kentucky, the observance takes place during the first week of March.
Severe Weather Awareness Week aims to encourage and equip residents to stay fully prepared for severe weather. Each day highlights a different topic focused on readiness and safety.

Sunday: What to Know Before the Storm
Monday: Flooding and Flash Floods
Tuesday: Lightning Safety
Wednesday: Tornado Safety & “Show Us Your Safe Place”
Thursday: Severe Thunderstorm Safety
Friday: How to Receive Weather Warnings
Saturday: Severe Weather Awareness Day Event at Trevecca
The week concludes with Severe Weather Awareness Day, giving residents an in-person chance to meet local National Weather Service officials. The event includes presentations about significant past weather events, along with sessions led by local media, including the WSMV First Alert Weather Team.
